Key facts for Kazakhstan
New Year, not Christmas, is the main year-end business occasion.
How companies in Kazakhstan give year-end gifts
In Kazakhstan, New Year is the main year-end occasion for corporate gifts. In the second half of December, companies hold New Year parties for staff and send gift sets, sweets and branded items to clients and partners; New Year trees and Father Frost (Ayaz Ata) imagery are standard. Orthodox Christmas on 7 January is a public holiday, but it is a religious rather than business occasion. Nauryz in March is a major spring holiday, and 8 March is marked with gifts to female colleagues. Russian and Kazakh are used in business; Russian is still common for cards. Chocolate and sweet gift boxes are popular New Year gifts. Corporate gifts are usually delivered to offices in the second half of December, often with a printed card. Large companies may order branded gift sets in volume for staff, clients and partners. Allow extra time for customs clearance in December.
