Key facts for Mongolia
New Year, not Christmas, is the year-end business occasion.
How companies in Mongolia give year-end gifts
In Mongolia, the year-end business occasion is New Year rather than Christmas. Companies hold New Year parties in late December and may give gifts to staff and partners; decorated trees and Father Frost imagery are associated with New Year, a legacy of the Soviet period. Tsagaan Sar, the Lunar New Year in February, is the most important traditional holiday, with family visits and gift exchange. Gifts are given and received with the right hand or both hands. Mongolian or English cards are acceptable for business partners. Shipping takes longer than to larger Asian markets, so order early. Chocolate gift boxes, tea, branded items and calendars are common corporate gifts. Ulaanbaatar is the main delivery point; deliveries elsewhere can take considerably longer.
