Christmas is decorative and commercial; New Year is the main year-end gifting occasion.

How companies in Thailand give year-end gifts

In Thailand, the main corporate gifting moment is the Western New Year. From mid-December, companies send gift baskets and branded gifts to clients, suppliers and partners, and many hold year-end parties for staff. Christmas is widely decorated in cities but is not a public holiday, so 'Happy New Year' or 'Season's Greetings' is the usual message. Chinese New Year is significant among Thai-Chinese businesses, and Songkran in April is the traditional new year. Gifts are presented with the right hand or both hands, and attractive wrapping is valued. Avoid black wrapping, which is associated with mourning, and be respectful of anything related to the monarchy or Buddhism in designs. Thai officials are subject to gift limits set by the anti-corruption commission (NACC). English is acceptable on business cards; a Thai greeting is a courteous addition.
