Key facts for Vietnam
Christmas is popular in cities, but Tết is the main corporate gifting season.
How companies in Vietnam give year-end gifts
In Vietnam, Tết, the Lunar New Year, is by far the most important gifting season. In the weeks before Tết, companies send gift baskets (giỏ quà Tết) of food, tea, sweets and wine to clients, partners and government contacts, and employers pay a Tết bonus to staff. Christmas is widely celebrated in cities and by Catholic communities, and international firms send year-end greetings, but local partners expect the Tết gift. The Mid-Autumn Festival brings mooncake gift boxes. Red and gold packaging symbolizes luck and prosperity. Gifts are presented with both hands. Vietnamese anti-corruption rules restrict gifts to public officials, and authorities have repeatedly reminded officials not to accept Tết gifts, so keep business gifts modest and avoid gifting to officials.
