Bahrain is one of the more open Gulf states. Ramadan and Eid are the main corporate gifting occasions, and National Day on 16–17 December coincides with the year-end period, when companies send branded gifts and international firms send 'Season's Greetings'. Christmas is celebrated by expatriates and in hotels but is not a public holiday. Alcohol is legal under licensing but should not be sent as a corporate gift or shipped by courier. Food should be halal for Muslim recipients. English is common in business. Quality and presentation matter, and gifts are given and received with the right hand.
